The Henry A. Rowland Department of Physics and Astronomy merges an exceptional research initiative, internationally distinguished faculty, and cutting-edge facilities. Our academic and research offerings embody two longstanding Johns Hopkins traditions: a focus on graduate education and investigation, complemented by a robust undergraduate curriculum, along with the adaptability unique to a department of our scale. Both undergraduate and graduate programs are carefully structured to deliver fundamental core subjects at suitable levels, seamlessly transitioning into specialized course offerings. We actively promote independent scholarly pursuits beyond traditional coursework, including research initiatives and self-directed learning opportunities. This dynamic environment is further enriched by the proximity of NASA's Space Telescope Science Institute—headquarters for the Hubble Space Telescope—situated directly opposite our campus.
