Our history department forms a vibrant academic community that equips students to tackle matters of profound personal and worldwide importance. You'll acquire essential writing abilities, sharpen your critical analysis skills, and learn to assess information through research projects, internships, and chances to publish your work. Moreover, you'll enhance your comparative reasoning skills while broadening your awareness of cultural interconnections across the globe.
The department motivates students to explore creative, meaningful, and innovative perspectives on both national and world history. Students develop crucial competencies in writing, analytical thinking, and information assessment. Our undergraduate program features courses spanning from expansive introductory lectures to intimate seminars designed to foster close collaboration with faculty and peers. Advanced courses emphasize writing proficiency while strengthening all students' abilities to critically analyze texts and craft persuasive written arguments. The major's core curriculum further develops these skills while honing specialized historical techniques, particularly primary source research and documentation. We also provide a history minor, an honors program for outstanding majors culminating in a senior thesis, and a combined BA/MA option for exceptional students.
