This program is designed exclusively for students pursuing certification to teach history, government, and another social science subject in middle and high school settings.

Those aiming to teach in K-12 schools need to earn a degree in their chosen subject area while also completing the Teacher Education Program offered by the Department of Teaching and Learning. The teaching specialization within the degree may have distinct course requirements compared to the standard academic major, as the curriculum aligns with state certification standards. After finishing both the degree with teaching specialization and the secondary licensure program, graduates qualify for a Montana teaching license in their chosen field.
