The Environmental Studies Bachelor of Arts program offers an interdisciplinary approach, helping students understand the reciprocal relationship between human actions and Earth's ecosystems. This major prepares students to address environmental and sustainability challenges through diverse methods including policy analysis, scientific inquiry, communication strategies, and behavioral modifications at both individual and societal levels, with a strong focus on social science approaches. Required coursework for all ENVS majors includes foundational core classes, a research-intensive senior capstone project, and practical internship experience, supplemented by three social science core courses and specialized electives aligned with each student's interests. The capstone experience combines a faculty-mentored research project or equivalent academic work with a career-focused senior seminar (1 credit) that addresses professional development and contemporary issues to ease the transition from academia to post-graduate careers. Juniors take a 1-credit research design course to prepare their senior project proposals. Enrollment in both the capstone and seminar is mandatory for all ENVS majors during their final fall semester.
