Public Administration students at JMU develop essential competencies for analyzing their local, national, and global environments. The curriculum for public administration majors includes classes in American government and policy, leadership in public and nonprofit organizations, economic principles, and research techniques. Eligible sophomores can apply for the accelerated Fifth-Year MPA program, enabling them to obtain a master's degree with just one extra year of coursework. Our extensive alumni connections support graduates pursuing opportunities in public service, consulting, policy development, strategic communications, and nonprofit organizations.
Our mission is to improve policymaking and community engagement both locally and internationally through student education, scholarly inquiry, and partnerships with individuals both within and beyond the JMU network.
