Justice Studies majors at JMU gain comprehensive insight into interconnected systems. This interdisciplinary program employs justice as a foundational concept to support and enhance individual and community advancement across political, economic, and social spheres. The program offers three specialization tracks: Criminal Justice and Criminology, Global Justice and Policy, and Social Justice Engagement. Justice Studies equips learners with adaptable skills, knowledge, and analytical approaches applicable to diverse academic, civic, and professional paths. As an interdisciplinary field, it synthesizes perspectives from social sciences and humanities to examine justice-related issues. Through thorough empirical and theoretical examination of justice and injustice, the program helps students formulate personal justice principles, comprehend their societal environment more completely, and discover career paths and methods for creating change. The Justice Studies program emphasizes community involvement, motivating students to take active roles in their communities while offering engagement opportunities and support tools. Note that this major differs from traditional criminal justice programs.
