The Women's and Gender Studies Program is an interdisciplinary initiative within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. This program enables students to examine topics related to women, gender, and sexuality across various cultural settings while exploring multiple academic fields through feminist lenses. Women's and gender studies fosters awareness of how intersecting elements—including race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, age, ability, gender identity, faith, nationality, and sexual orientation—shape perspectives on women's historical, cultural, and societal positions.
The program enhances analytical skills and equips students to challenge conventional beliefs. It motivates learners to investigate the foundations and ideological roots of knowledge while studying how knowledge and societal power intersect. Through its commitment to equity and inclusivity, this field bridges individual experiences with civic engagement while amplifying student perspectives.
Program alumni possess strong critical analysis, research, and communication abilities. Their comprehensive grasp of gender, racial, and class dynamics allows them to collaborate effectively in addressing intricate societal challenges. Graduates also gain valuable preparation for professions in counseling, education, human resources, global development, policy-making, government, business, and legal fields. The curriculum features foundational and cross-disciplinary courses spanning anthropology, history, economics, literature, health sciences, political science, psychology, religious studies, sociology, communication, and foreign languages.
