The Bachelor of Science in Meteorology: This program explores Earth's atmosphere and the mechanisms driving its changes. Meteorology majors graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree that adheres to American Meteorological Society standards and qualifies graduates for positions with the National Weather Service and World Meteorological Organization. To excel in professional or graduate-level meteorology, students must cultivate and combine various competencies, including weather observation techniques, atmospheric physics and dynamics, modern weather technology implementation, advanced mathematics, computer programming and simulation, and strong verbal and written communication skills. The senior thesis (MTEOR 4990 Senior Research) serves as a culminating project where students showcase their ability to synthesize these diverse skills. Modern meteorology connects to numerous aspects of human activity as an earth-system science. Through electives and general education courses, meteorology students broaden their perspective, integrating foundational meteorological knowledge with broader concepts to thrive in this globally relevant field.
