The linguistics program offers an interdisciplinary curriculum catering to students fascinated by language in all its dimensions—structure, evolution, diversity, semantics, and applications. Linguistics courses provide foundational knowledge for professions centered around language, including ESL instruction, second language acquisition, speech therapy, intercultural communication, legal studies, anthropological linguistics, natural language processing, and cognitive language studies.
Within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, linguistics coursework can fulfill elective credits or group requirements, and may contribute to either a minor or major program. Students completing the linguistics major graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
