The Department of Art and Visual Culture provides comprehensive degree programs centered on fine arts and visual culture, featuring courses in studio arts, art history, art education, and scientific illustration. Students can pursue a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Art and Design, Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Integrated Studio Arts, or Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Integrated Visual Arts.
The four-year Bachelor of Arts in Art and Design program offers two tracks: Art and Culture or Visual Culture Studies. Both paths encourage students to combine their studio art or visual culture coursework with studies in another discipline, either within or beyond the College of Design. This may involve pursuing a second major or minor, or an advisor-approved alternative study plan.
A defining characteristic of the B.A. in Art and Design is its adaptability. Numerous students collaborate with advisors to craft personalized study plans that pair the B.A. degree with complementary fields like journalism, advertising, business, entrepreneurship, history, or psychology.
Graduates with a B.A. in Art and Design can access diverse postgraduate and professional paths, including careers in art criticism, art history, art sales, conservation, corporate art curation, gallery/museum studies, and art therapy.
