The Bachelor of Science program is built upon the IDM core curriculum, which emphasizes four key disciplines: Image, Sound, Narrative, and Interactivity. These foundational courses pave the way for advanced electives in interactive installations, augmented reality, 3D modeling, game design, and user experience. The program combines Tandon Engineering fundamentals with media studies (offered through Media, Culture, and Communication), complemented by mathematics, sciences, humanities, and social science coursework.
This project-driven approach fosters students' growth as innovative, socially conscious creators skilled in emerging technologies. IDM scholars have opportunities to pursue research through coursework, capstone projects, Tandon's VIP Program, NYU's Entrepreneurial Institute, and internships with New York's media sector.
As an active research hub within NYU Tandon, IDM faculty pioneer interdisciplinary projects blending media, design, and social impact. Current research spans diverse fields: revolutionizing theater through motion capture, restoring electronic art with conservation experts, building digital natural history archives, advancing virtual production techniques, developing electronic sound synthesis tools, incorporating wearable tech in performing arts, and transforming STEM education with electronics.
