The Master of Science in Physics is a graduate program awarded by Purdue University through its Physics Department.
Research focus areas in the Department span biological physics, atomic/molecular/optical (AMO) physics, condensed matter physics, and physics education, with frequent interdisciplinary projects. Faculty maintain robust partnerships across the School of Science, IU School of Medicine, School of Engineering and Technology, and School of Informatics.
Each student partners with a primary advisor and a three-member faculty committee to create a customized study plan featuring courses aligned with their academic interests.
The program offers both thesis and non-thesis tracks. Thesis candidates conduct original research and produce a formal dissertation under faculty guidance, while non-thesis students complete a research project culminating in a comprehensive report.
Students must have received a bachelor’s degree (or its equivalent) in the United States or another country.
English language requirements:
All non-native speakers of English must also submit proof of English proficiency unless the applicant has a Bachelor's degree or higher from the US or a predominantly English-speaking country.
