Our atmospheric science graduate program maintains a selective, high-caliber approach with intentionally limited enrollment. This allows faculty to dedicate substantial attention to each advisee, fostering close mentorship relationships. Students benefit from this personalized guidance while enjoying the resources of a major research institution and Ithaca's scenic, vibrant community. We encourage applicants from diverse academic disciplines including physics, chemistry, engineering, geosciences, and mathematics, alongside atmospheric science majors. While we value varied educational backgrounds, all candidates should possess strong foundational knowledge in physics and mathematics at the undergraduate level. The program guarantees comprehensive financial assistance covering tuition, living expenses, and health coverage for all admitted students. Occasionally, we must reject highly qualified applicants when their research interests don't align with current faculty projects or due to constrained external funding. Support options include research assistantships funded either by the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences or faculty grants, along with departmental teaching assistantships. We strongly recommend that both prospective and current students pursue fellowship opportunities through organizations like NSF, NASA, AMS, and NOAA that provide atmospheric science funding.
