Earn an 18-credit Museum Studies Graduate Certificate to enhance your advanced degree and equip yourself for museum professions. Begin with one mandatory introductory course (3 credits) to establish your theoretical base. Select two core courses (6 credits) from approved options (or an MSTD elective with approval) to learn museum methodologies, then choose two electives (6 additional credits), including at least one MSTD course, to explore specialized topics aligned with your interests. Complete your certification with an essential internship (3 credits), gaining hands-on experience at a local museum while working alongside an expert mentor.

Located in an urban setting, IUPUI connects students to Indianapolis' vibrant museum and arts scene. Our Public Scholars of Civic Engagement faculty build lasting partnerships with regional cultural institutions, engaging students in impactful collaborations. The Museum Studies Program features adjunct professors and visiting lecturers who integrate cutting-edge museum techniques into coursework. Students access unique learning opportunities through community resources, including internships, exhibit development projects, collections research, faculty-led museum studies, and participation in professional events. By incorporating Indianapolis museums into the curriculum, the program encourages thoughtful analysis of contemporary museum practices and challenges.
