Indiana University School of Medicine provides two distinct routes to earn a PhD in Anatomy and Cell Biology. The Education Track equips students for roles in teaching anatomy and physiology along with conducting educational research, while the Biomedical Research Track trains students for laboratory-based scientific careers. The Department of Anatomy, Cell Biology & Physiology is committed to advancing human health through pioneering biomedical research targeting various diseases, developing innovative educational programs for future healthcare providers, and enhancing the academic and research landscape at Indiana University School of Medicine.
With a longstanding tradition of integrating diverse life science disciplines—such as cell and molecular biology, genetics, biophysics, physiology, anatomical structure, histology, neuroscience, and imaging—the department tackles intricate health challenges from a fundamental science approach. Its educational programs have delivered essential anatomy and physiology training to countless medical professionals, including physicians, physical therapists, physician assistants, and researchers across academic institutions, biotech firms, private practices, and government/nonprofit sectors. Students must have received a bachelor’s degree (or its equivalent) in the United States or another country.
All non-native speakers of English must also submit proof of English proficiency unless the applicant has a Bachelor's degree or higher from the US or a predominantly English-speaking country.
