Mechanical engineering is rooted in fundamental sciences such as mathematics, physics, and chemistry, demanding expertise in areas like solid and fluid mechanics, materials science, thermodynamics, heat and mass transfer, manufacturing methods, instrumentation, and control systems. Mechanical engineers participate in diverse roles, encompassing design, manufacturing, research, development, testing, construction, operations, sales, management, consulting, and education.
The mechanical engineering curriculum establishes a comprehensive foundation for an engineering career. Core mechanical engineering topics are supplemented with substantial computer training in fields like computer-aided design and numerical analysis. The program's adaptability enables students to focus on their preferred specialization by selecting elective courses. Part-time work opportunities exist in the department's research laboratories, providing practical experience that enriches academic learning and proves especially beneficial for those pursuing advanced graduate studies.
Students must have earned a diploma from an accredited high school before you enroll at IUPUI.
ENGLISH PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENTS
Students scoring TOEFL 60+ or IELTS 5.5+ are eligible for admission but should anticipate taking additional English for Academic Purposes courses along with their academic program.
