Dedicate yourself wholeheartedly to your daily work while assisting physicians in diagnosing and treating cardiac conditions. The fulfilling profession of echocardiography offers exciting opportunities. In this medical specialty, you'll operate advanced equipment to generate detailed heart images. By utilizing high-frequency sound waves, you'll produce both 2-D and 3-D visualizations that aid doctors in identifying and managing heart disorders. As an echocardiography technician, you could focus on adult, pediatric, or fetal cardiac imaging.

This comprehensive 120-credit program comprises two distinct phases:

Phase One involves completing 88 credits of foundational coursework, covering subjects like public speaking, chemistry, biology, physics, and mathematics as prerequisites for clinical training. Students also fulfill all Liberal Studies requirements during their time at IUP's main campus. Successful completion of Phase One is mandatory before advancing to the nuclear medicine technology affiliate school.
Phase Two consists of 32 credits during a 12-month clinical year, where students participate in both classroom instruction and hands-on training through Ohio's University of Findlay. The program maintains full accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs, endorsed by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS).
The clinical training begins with four months at the University of Findlay focusing on echocardiography theory, followed by 35 weeks of practical experience at partner hospitals. The program culminates with a comprehensive review week and final examination.

Upon graduation, echocardiography program alumni qualify to take the national certification exam administered by the American Registry for Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography (ADCS). Many states require this national certification for licensure, enabling professionals to practice legally within those jurisdictions.
