Throughout Earth's geological timeline, humans have existed for only a brief period, yet we've significantly influenced the planet. As an Environmental track Geology major, you'll receive an education that combines fundamental knowledge with progressive training for careers in environmental geology.
Your studies will include essential Geoscience coursework along with elective options from related disciplines. Available electives allow for internships, independent research, or cross-disciplinary courses in fields like Environmental Health Science from Biology, Safety Sciences, or Chemistry.
The Geoscience Department prioritizes experiential learning through fieldwork and student research in specialized facilities including: Marine Sediments Labs, Geochemistry Research Lab, Paleontology Research Lab, Structural Geology and Tectonics Lab, Planetary Science Lab, and the IUP Planetarium. Field courses extend to locations like Newfoundland, Yellowstone, the Bahamas, and the American Southwest.
