The Biology Department at IUP provides the advantages of major research universities combined with the personalized attention typical of smaller liberal arts colleges. Our curriculum meets all medical school prerequisites and ensures you're fully prepared for the MCAT by your junior year.
IUP maintains accelerated admission partnerships with both Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) and Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM). Qualified students can secure conditional medical school acceptance by maintaining a 3.5 GPA or higher in their pre-med studies. These innovative 3+4 programs enable students to begin medical training after just three years at IUP. Upon completing their first year at either LECOM or PCOM (while fulfilling IUP's undergraduate requirements), students receive their Bachelor of Science in Biology from IUP.
As part of Jefferson Medical College's Physician Shortage Area Program, IUP helps address Pennsylvania's rural healthcare gaps by encouraging future doctors to serve underserved communities. Applicants should have rural backgrounds or substantial experience in rural settings to qualify for this initiative.
