The Honors Program welcomes declared sociology majors with a departmental-approved minimum 3.25 overall GPA and 3.5 GPA in sociology courses.
Participants take CHSS 489 (a cross-disciplinary seminar focusing on problem-solving, discussions, readings, and writing on selected topics), SOC 483: Honors Thesis, and HNRC 499: Honors Senior Synthesis, which satisfies the Liberal Studies Synthesis requirement. A grade of C or better is required in all track courses. Students should meet with their advisors to understand how honors courses fit within their sociology major requirements.
Eligible students may receive invitations to apply or can self-nominate. To qualify for the Sociology Honors track, applicants must have completed 15 sociology credits, including SOC 320: Sociological Theory. Qualified sociology majors should submit their application to the Sociology Department chair after completing at least 56 credits.
