Our nationally renowned musicology program provides comprehensive studies across all musical eras, featuring an exceptional music library and the advantages of a top-tier research university with a full-fledged music school. The Graduate Musicology Association organizes regular department gatherings such as picnics, concerts, and special events. Master's candidates engage in a dedicated Musicology Reading Group to analyze contemporary scholarship, while doctoral students benefit from intensive faculty collaboration and peer interaction in our seminars and methodology courses. Bachelor’s degree (B.M. or B.A.) with a major in music, or demonstrated equivalent. Applications must include a formal research paper on a historical or theoretical subject in music.
Applicants whose native language is not English should submit proof of such proficiency by the time they apply for admission. Normally this is done by taking the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Results of this test should be submitted as part of the application for admission.
