As businesses, society, and legal systems have grown increasingly complex, the legal profession has evolved toward greater specialization. Students often choose to concentrate on specific practice areas to build advanced expertise in their selected fields. Yet regardless of specialization, all legal professionals require foundational knowledge across key disciplines. A securities attorney must possess sufficient antitrust awareness to identify potential compliance concerns for clients. Estate planning lawyers should grasp land use regulations to properly assess their impact on asset valuations. Notably, graduates launching solo practices or joining small firms (as over 25% of our alumni do) must develop comprehensive knowledge spanning the diverse challenges facing modern businesses, families, and professionals. Indiana Law's general practice concentration meets these demands. Beyond the core first-year coursework, the following classes establish essential foundations for addressing the most common legal issues contemporary practitioners face.
