The Bachelor of Science program offers a robust foundation in science and mathematics, equipping students for careers in both clinical practice and research. This Speech and Hearing Sciences B.S. program thoroughly prepares graduates for advanced studies in audiology and speech-language pathology. Students aiming for graduate education are encouraged to gain research experience. Our department houses 11 specialized laboratories focusing on areas like speech perception, language acquisition, vocal disorders, bilingualism, and audiology. While our students have diverse backgrounds, they typically exhibit these shared characteristics: Exceptional verbal communication abilities. Fascination with phonetics and language evolution. Compassion for assisting others. Sensitivity toward individuals with communication challenges. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Proficiency in multiple languages, including ASL. Outstanding organizational and time management capabilities.
