Epidemiology is the branch of public health that examines how diseases spread and what factors influence them. This discipline also assesses the effectiveness of public health initiatives and preventive measures, including vaccination programs. Indiana University Bloomington's Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSPH) in Epidemiology is the first undergraduate program of its kind in the United States, as this field was traditionally only available to graduate and professional students. Success in epidemiology demands strong skills in mathematics, statistics, data analysis, and scientific subjects like anatomy, biology, and other health-related fields. Epidemiologists collaborate with various healthcare professionals, and IUB's BSPH program offers a specialized track that incorporates many pre-professional course requirements into the degree curriculum.
