This concentration allows students to examine the origins of illnesses in animals (including humans) and plants, analyze the molecular processes behind diseases, explore immune system responses that enable healing and defense, assess how treatments combat diseases, and research environmental and physiological elements affecting disease prevalence. To master this specialization, students must combine knowledge of molecular and cellular biology with microbiology and immunology while appreciating the significance of population and ecosystem dynamics. Those completing the Biology of Disease program will be prepared for diverse career paths in healthcare, biomedical research, laboratory testing and diagnostics, public health initiatives, science policy, legal and patent fields, business ventures, education, and scientific communication.
