Middle school math serves as a vital transition from basic arithmetic in elementary grades to higher-level concepts in high school. Educators at this level play a significant role in shaping students' academic futures. During these years, learners explore more complex mathematical areas like algebra and geometry, which foster critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and logical reasoning. These skills prove valuable across various disciplines, from sciences to arts.
Our specialized middle school math education program focuses exclusively on preparing teachers for grades five through eight. Along with comprehensive training in key mathematical subjects, participants gain practical experience through placements at nearby middle schools and tutoring sessions at Indiana State's Math Lab. The curriculum culminates with a full semester of student teaching in an actual middle school classroom.
