The School Social Work specialization equips you with the expertise to support students during critical moments. You'll complete a year-long practicum in an educational setting, gaining hands-on experience. This placement allows you to partner with educators and parents to develop tailored education plans (IEPs) for students. Your role includes offering counseling to individuals, groups, and families. When students require assistance beyond school resources, you'll act as their advocate. To qualify for the Professional Educator's License with a School Social Work endorsement, Illinois State Board of Education mandates passing the state's social work content exam. Candidates must complete this exam by the fall semester's end during their specialist practicum to progress to the spring semester. Our curriculum thoroughly prepares you for this examination and licensure requirements - the essential credential for school social work positions in Illinois.
