Studying history provides captivating narratives while deepening our self-awareness and global perspective. As a history major, you can immerse yourself in subjects that truly inspire you. Our curriculum features nearly 100 classes spanning from medieval times to the Revolutionary War. You'll benefit from intimate class settings taught by dedicated professors. Illinois State's History program includes an Accelerated Master's Degree (AMD) track, allowing exceptional undergraduates to obtain a graduate degree with just one extra year of study. After declaring your major, consult with your advisor for details. A history degree opens doors to diverse professions. You'll develop essential skills in critical analysis, composition, investigation, and interpretation - valuable assets across industries including commerce, media, legal systems, and public service. Beyond classroom learning, we provide hands-on opportunities like internships at historic sites such as the David Davis Mansion or McLean County Museum. Your research may even appear in our academic publication, Recounting the Past.
