The Bachelor of Science in Bioanalytical Chemistry focuses on contemporary approaches in chemical and biochemical methodologies, along with advanced instrumentation for analyzing and identifying biomolecules and biologically active compounds. This encompasses pharmaceuticals, drug byproducts, proteins, peptides, antibodies, genetic materials, enzymes, and biological therapeutics.
Illinois Tech pioneered the nation's first B.S. program in bioanalytical chemistry. This curriculum delivers a multidisciplinary foundation in bioanalytical theory, techniques, and the practical use of analytical chemistry for identifying, describing, and measuring bioactive compounds within living systems.
Students can engage in undergraduate research alongside chemistry professors, working in areas like biosensor development, microscopic protein analysis, antibody-drug conjugate chemistry, and computer modeling of molecular interactions. These experiences provide valuable preparation for professional careers or advanced academic pursuits.
