Idaho State University provides students with the chance to earn an interdisciplinary master's degree (M.A., M.S., M.Ed.), designated as Interdisciplinary Studies with additional fields listed as areas of academic focus.
To qualify, students must complete at least 30 credit hours, including a minimum of 10 credits from two participating departments. Admission requires approval from each involved department, and students should consult potential departments before designing their interdisciplinary program.
While 10 credits per department is the minimum, departments may mandate additional coursework as part of their participation agreement. Students must submit a preliminary study plan to the Graduate School within their first academic year.
Interdisciplinary degrees follow the same standards as traditional programs. Students may complete an interdisciplinary thesis, earning 3-5 credits per department. The final oral examination must include representatives from each participating department and one Graduate Faculty Representative from an unrelated department.
