The Department of Global Studies and Languages emerged from the merger of Languages and Literatures with International Studies to better equip students for leadership roles in an international context. This academic unit focuses on cultivating competencies in intercultural communication, foreign languages, global diplomacy, and business acumen. Idaho State University's program unlocks diverse career pathways in both domestic and international spheres, including public sector roles, healthcare fields, business ventures, and political arenas, while broadening students' perspectives beyond their immediate surroundings. Through honing analytical capabilities, exploring world histories and cultures, and developing proficiency in additional languages, learners examine topics ranging from international trade dynamics to migration patterns and the worldwide integration of cultural, political, and economic systems. The Basic Language Certificate, available in Japanese and Spanish, awards students formal recognition for completing an 18-credit structured curriculum.
