The Social Work program provides a CSWE-accredited Bachelor of Arts in Social Work (BASW) degree, recognized by the national accrediting body. This program equips students for entry-level generalist practice in professional social work. Graduates emerge as committed practitioners focused on: Improving life quality for individuals and communities. Strengthening the capabilities of people, families, and groups. Promoting social equity, economic fairness, and fundamental human rights. The integrated programs within the Department of Sociology, Social Work, and Criminology collectively support the College of Arts and Letters' mission while fostering cross-disciplinary partnerships. Our department emphasizes scholarly inquiry, practical application, and community engagement. Communities form the foundation for examining health disparities, social inequalities, justice systems, and serve as vital contexts for individual development. This community-centered approach highlights Sociology's societal insights, establishes Social Work's specialization in aging services, child protection, and LGBTQ+ advocacy, and positions Criminology's importance in offender rehabilitation and community reintegration. Academic offerings include Bachelor's degrees in Sociology (with Criminology specialization option), Social Work, an Associate's in Criminology, plus minors in Sociology and Gender/Sexuality Studies. Graduate programs feature Master's degrees in both Sociology and Social Work.
