Biology students can specialize in one of three focus areas: molecular and cellular biology, anatomy and physiology, or evolutionary and ecological biology. All majors must first complete foundational biology courses, including General Biology (101 and 102, spanning two semesters) and Genetics (200), with General Biology serving as a prerequisite for Genetics. Following these core requirements, students must select two elective courses from different concentration areas and complete at least 14 credit hours of advanced electives. Every senior must enroll in Senior Seminar (493 or 494). To graduate with a biology major, a minimum of 35 credit hours in biology is required. Additional supporting courses in chemistry, mathematics, and physics are mandatory, covering precalculus, a full year of physics, general chemistry with labs, and organic chemistry I, II, plus lab work. This comprehensive program prepares graduates for diverse career paths in graduate studies or professional fields, including academia, research, healthcare, and environmental sciences.
