The International Affairs Program empowers students to investigate, analyze, and interpret major global developments using an interdisciplinary framework that fosters analytical skills and creative problem-solving for modern societal challenges. Our complex, interconnected world presents issues that resist straightforward answers. This program cultivates engaged citizens and tomorrow's leaders who are eager to learn, dedicated to worldwide fairness and equality, and motivated by a spirit of humanitarian service.
The objectives of the International Affairs Program include:
Expanding representation of underrepresented groups in leadership positions within global diplomacy and international relations.
Encouraging cross-disciplinary education and fostering integrated learning that harnesses the intellectual advantages of multiple academic fields at Howard University, spanning history, political science, legal studies, economics, sociology, education, public health, arts, environmental studies, and technology.
Establishing a premier center for research and instruction on unconventional viewpoints and frameworks in global relations, especially those originating from African diaspora communities, tackling concerns such as: worldwide economic disparities and resource allocation, peacekeeping and conflict mediation, workforce development and fairness, environmental protection and civil liberties, digital communication, and cultural diversity as reflected in evolving discussions about race, gender, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status.
Engaging both students and professors in vital international matters via collaborative projects, practical training, service-based education, overseas study programs, and experiential opportunities with government bodies, international institutions, businesses, and nonprofit organizations.
Developing community outreach initiatives created by faculty and students that share expertise through local engagement and public service while enhancing societal awareness of how global occurrences influence national policies.
Contributing to the University's global orientation by raising consciousness and organizing international programs and activities.
