Beginning Fall 2018, aspiring architects at Howard University will enroll in the Master of Architecture program. This shift in architectural education stems from the Department of Architecture's successful proposal to the National Architecture Accrediting Board (NAAB) in May 2017, which received approval that July. The modification transitions the professional degree from a five-year Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.) to a five-year Master of Architecture (M.Arch) program.
This program transformation holds considerable importance. The NAAB-endorsed curriculum now offers an uninterrupted progression from undergraduate to graduate studies culminating in the professional M.Arch degree. The 171-credit program comprises three course categories: 1) Essential core courses, 2) Specialized professional electives serving as concentration areas along with unrestricted electives, and 3) Broad liberal arts electives.
