The MSED in Literacy Studies prepares certified teachers to become literacy specialists capable of delivering exceptional literacy instruction and providing curriculum leadership within schools and districts. Our curriculum aligns with cutting-edge literacy research and meets New York State Board of Regents standards. Graduate students gain contemporary knowledge of literacy learning theories, instructional methods for PreK-12 classrooms, youth literature, assessment techniques, and specialized support for diverse learners and students with disabilities. Combining in-person, hybrid, and online coursework with extensive fieldwork and clinical experiences, our program equips literacy specialists and teachers to foster reading/writing development, implement assessment-based instruction, and lead professional development initiatives. Participants fulfill certification requirements for literacy instruction across all grade levels, from birth through 12th grade.
