This program prepares students for general accounting roles in business but doesn't meet all educational criteria needed for New York State CPA licensure. Most states, including New York, mandate 150 semester hours of study for CPA certification. Those aiming for public accounting careers should explore the BBA Major in Accounting (Licensure) program or our accelerated options.
Accounting majors must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA in all Hofstra accounting courses. Additionally, they need at least a C- in ACCT 101, 102, 123, and 124, whether completed at Hofstra or transferred. If these requirements aren't met, the courses must be retaken at Hofstra as no exemptions are permitted.
Required courses include ACCT 115, 123, 124, 125, 131, 133, 134, 139, 140, 143, 144, and BBA 002 (Microsoft Office Excel Expert Certification). Completing IT 001, IT 015, ACCT 115, ACCT 139, and ACCT 140 automatically earns students a Digital Accounting Technology concentration within this program.
