Public health is a multidisciplinary domain focused on preventing diseases, injuries, and early mortality while enhancing wellbeing and extending lifespan across communities and populations.
The Advanced Certificate in Foundations of Public Health is designed for professionals employed in public health agencies or related health/human services fields who seek to acquire the methodologies and evidence-based practices central to public health.
To obtain this certificate, students must complete 12 semester hours (4 courses) and attend a compulsory prerequisite Foundations of Public Health Seminar. These credits may be transferred toward Hofstra's MPH program.
Hofstra's 42-credit MPH program, accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH), balances public health theory with real-world implementation. Students learn to analyze public health research, evaluate community health challenges, design interventions using health education principles, and comprehend public health's societal role.
