Gain expertise in serving diverse communities through studies in social policy, research, and practical application. Our curriculum emphasizes intervention strategies, assessment techniques, and extensive hands-on experience across multiple environments. HPU's MSW program prioritizes building cultural awareness skills, particularly relevant to Hawaii's multicultural population. The MSW-Advanced Generalist Practice requires 57 credits, while the Advanced Standing option consists of 30 credits. Our program follows an advanced generalist approach with a specialization in culturally responsive social work. Additionally, we provide specialized training in military social work and veterans services through five dedicated courses and practical placements in related settings.
Social work is dedicated to improving individual and community welfare. Practitioners address issues of fairness and equity across local, national, and international spheres. They frequently serve as change agents, confronting systemic barriers while empowering individuals and communities. The field offers numerous specialization paths such as child/family services, healthcare systems, mental health support, counseling, justice systems, or nonprofit management, among other professional domains.
HPU's MSW program aims to equip students with the skills for ethical, proficient social work practice. By fostering analytical thinking and leveraging our unique cultural and geographical setting, Hawaii Pacific University students work to improve societal welfare, demonstrate leadership in culturally appropriate services at all practice levels, champion fairness in social and economic systems worldwide, and advance multicultural understanding through social work scholarship.
