Oceanography explores the world's oceans through an interdisciplinary lens, examining everything from coastal shallows to deep-sea trenches across all climate zones.
These specialized areas are deeply interconnected and closely tied to related disciplines like atmospheric science, geophysics, and marine engineering. While biological oceanography overlaps with marine biology, it emphasizes how marine life interacts with environmental factors – particularly how chemical, physical, and geographical ocean characteristics influence organism distribution and population dynamics. HPU's comprehensive program covers all oceanographic specialties.
Earning an Oceanography bachelor's degree from HPU offers exceptional flexibility, equipping students with robust training in physical and biological sciences with specialized marine systems knowledge. Our B.S. program specifically readies graduates for entry-level roles in marine science – whether shaping marine policy in government agencies, managing fisheries, conducting field research, analyzing data, or working in educational or nonprofit organizations.
