Communication Studies equips students to thrive as conscientious global citizens through proficient and principled communication. This field offers essential knowledge and abilities that enhance personal growth, career advancement, and civic participation. Communication as a discipline examines how individuals create and exchange meaning through messages in diverse settings, cultures, and platforms. Rooted in Western academia as rhetoric, communication education has been fundamental to Greek, Roman, Medieval, Renaissance, Asian, Indigenous, and contemporary societies. Modern communication studies now encompass digital platforms, online commerce, mobile technologies, international relations, marketing, corporate communications, news media, broadcasting, cross-cultural exchanges, personal interactions, oratory skills, digital tools, and media analysis.
The Department of Communication (DOC) Internship initiative stands as a premier program, enabling students to implement classroom knowledge to address genuine challenges encountered by organizations and enterprises. Through COM 3950, Communication Practicum, participants pursue internships across various communication sectors such as marketing, business communications, news reporting, public affairs, digital platforms, or integrated media production.
