This specialization offers students comprehensive professional and academic training in global urban planning. The program addresses three key worldwide issues. First, it examines urbanization's growing influence as a significant political, economic, and social factor in international relations. Second, it tackles the explosive expansion of cities in developing nations, where the majority of global urban population growth is happening. Lastly, the concentration acknowledges that urban planners can gain valuable insights by comparing urban development across various nations and diverse metropolitan settings.

Students in this program can either explore international and comparative planning broadly or specialize in specific areas. Potential focuses include global development planning, regional planning (covering areas like South Asia, the Middle East, or Africa, among others), and cross-national planning comparisons.
