This program stands among the nation's limited number of graduate virology programs, with its intimate scale delivering the advantages of a tight-knit academic community, featuring close student-faculty interactions.
Virology represents a specialized field under the Division of Medical Sciences, an administrative hub at Harvard Medical School that oversees biomedical PhD initiatives in the Longwood Medical Area. Virology students ultimately earn a PhD in medical sciences.
As part of Harvard Integrated Life Sciences, the Virology program promotes interdisciplinary cooperation and joint research endeavors.
Individuals who have or will have by the time of matriculation a BA, BS, or equivalent undergraduate degree (for prospective international students, a three- or four-year undergraduate degree from an institution of recognized standing) and actively seeks applicants from groups historically underrepresented in graduate schools.
