The Harvard SHBT program is a cutting-edge, cross-disciplinary PhD initiative that educates scholars in fundamental science, translational medicine, and engineering methodologies within human communication studies. Faculty and students at SHBT investigate critical topics in auditory neuroscience, signal analysis, perceptual cognition, and speech-language disorders, blending intensive scientific education with hands-on clinical experience. Alumni assume prominent positions in academic and corporate settings, driving scientific innovation and creating advanced biomedical solutions for hearing, speech, voice, language, and balance impairments. Many pursue dual careers in both research and clinical specialties like otology, audiology, or speech therapy. We welcome applicants with varied academic preparation in fields including physics, engineering, neuroscience, linguistics, and clinical disciplines related to communication sciences. SHBT is committed to fostering diversity by actively supporting students from underrepresented communities, including various ethnic groups and individuals with hearing challenges.
Individuals who have or will have by the time of matriculation a BA, BS, or equivalent undergraduate degree (for prospective international students, a three- or four-year undergraduate degree from an institution of recognized standing) and actively seeks applicants from groups historically underrepresented in graduate schools.
English Language Scores: iBT TOEFL score of 100 or IELTS score of 7.0. Application Deadline: Dec 1.
