The Center for Middle Eastern Studies serves as a hub for multidisciplinary research on the Middle East and North Africa at Harvard University, fostering an active community that welcomes your involvement.
At the Center for Middle Eastern Studies (CMES), we create connections across disciplines for the study of this dynamic region while building an engaged community. Whether pursuing an AM or PhD, you'll access nearly 100 annual events featuring workshops, seminars, and discussions with leading scholars, policy experts, and journalists.
Our PhD program provides specialized joint tracks in Middle Eastern studies: history, anthropology, or art and architectural history. You'll collaborate with distinguished faculty across departments while being supported to explore interdisciplinary connections and develop proficiency in at least one regional research language.
