Psychology explores the scientific examination of mental processes. Our work centers on observing, experimenting with, and assessing human and animal cognition through diverse approaches. While we increasingly examine the brain directly thanks to advancing technologies, behavioral analysis remains our principal tool for comprehending mental functions. Harvard's Psychology Department primarily investigates fundamental cognitive mechanisms including attention, perception, memory, classification, reasoning, judgment, language acquisition, developmental psychology, social cognition, group dynamics, and ethical understanding. Furthermore, certain faculty members study the origins, progression, and management of psychological disorders. United by our commitment to empirical research, the department collectively seeks to illuminate the connections between cognition, neural processes, and actions - a focus mirrored in our instructional programs.
