The Associate in Fine Arts degree is typically chosen by students aiming to transfer to a four-year institution. While earning this degree provides a solid foundation for further education or an art career, it does not ensure automatic acceptance as an art major. To qualify for Washington state's Direct Transfer Agreement (DTA), students must apply for both the Associate in Arts Degree (AA-DTA) and the AFA upon graduation. Creating a portfolio showcasing the student's strongest work from Green River College—demonstrating creativity, skill, and experimentation—is strongly advised. Often, the portfolio review is crucial for admission into Fine Arts programs, and this degree helps students develop a competitive portfolio. To graduate, students must complete at least 103 quarter credits from 100-level or higher courses (from the approved list below) and fulfill specific distribution requirements. Pass/no-credit courses may account for no more than 25% of the total credits. Note that some majors may not accept Pass-graded courses. A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 and at least 24 credits earned at Green River College are required for graduation.
