Mechanical engineering stands out as one of the most versatile engineering disciplines. It unlocks career possibilities across numerous sectors including manufacturing, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, transportation, automotive, aerospace, energy production, and more. At Gonzaga University, our mechanical engineering degree equips students with diverse career pathways, from product design to production processes, whether in massive aerospace corporations or innovative startup environments. The curriculum builds adaptability through comprehensive training in mathematical principles, scientific theories, and engineering fundamentals. Students explore subjects like chemistry, physics, mechanical systems, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, heat transfer, material science, production methods, engineering design, control systems, experimental techniques, and economic considerations. The program also develops practical competencies through laboratory work and instruction in mathematical modeling and computational tools including CAD software and CFD analysis. Hands-on design projects begin in the second year and culminate in a capstone senior design experience. Alumni from our program have launched successful careers in aerospace firms, service organizations, and advanced academic research.
