The Associate of Arts in Elementary Education for Transfer prepares students aiming to join the teaching field, primarily for kindergarten through eighth grade, who intend to continue their education at a four-year institution to earn a Bachelor's degree and fulfill California's teaching certification standards. Through strategic course selection, transfer-seeking students can earn their Associate in Arts Degree while simultaneously completing lower-division prerequisites for the Bachelor's program and meeting the criteria for the state-approved Multiple Subjects Credential Program.
To earn an Associate Degree for Transfer, students must fulfill these requirements:
Successfully complete 60 semester units or 90 quarter units of applicable coursework,
Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0,
Achieve at least a C grade (or Pass) in all major courses, and
Finish either IGETC or CSU GE-Breadth requirements.
After completing this program, graduates will be able to:
Describe the historical development of elementary education and its connection to modern society and culture.
Recognize the essential teacher characteristics defined by the California Standards for the Teaching Profession.
Gain subject matter proficiency in preparation for the CSET Multiple Subjects Examination.
Create a thorough professional teaching portfolio.
Acquire initial classroom exposure through observation and hands-on teaching experiences.
