The Museum Anthropology Concentration offers a specialized track for students pursuing an M.A. in Anthropology. Unlike broader museum studies programs, this concentration applies anthropological lenses to explore curation, exhibitions, and museum operations through a cross-cultural framework that recognizes museums as evolving institutions shaped by their societal environments.
Participants critically analyze how museums both reflect and shape concepts of heritage, identity, nationhood, and cultural significance. The program focuses on museums as platforms for anthropological discourse, employing theoretical perspectives to examine museum practices across cultures while providing hands-on experience with collections or exhibits to generate fresh insights.
